North Korea denies role in Sony hack

An unidentified North Korean official has denied that his country was behind the hack of Sony Pictures, an online report claimed.According to Voice of America (VOA) -- the U.S. government's official foreign broadcaster -- a New York City-based North Korean diplomat refuted charges that its hackers, or those it may have sponsored, were responsible for the attack that crippled the studio's computers and, many believe, resulted in the distribution of unreleased movies to file-sharing sites.MORE ON NETWORK WORLD: Free security tools you should try The official would have been someone in the isolationist country's United Nations delegation, based in New York, as the U.S. and North Korea have no formal diplomatic relations.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE

30 years of Cisco: The networking giant's boldest predictions over the years

December of 1984 was a month filled with notable moments. China's Premier Zhao Ziyang and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher signed the Hong Kong Treaty. In the world of sports, Eric Dickerson broke OJ Simpson's NFL rushing record and Doug Flutie won the Heisman trophy. In entertainment circles, Madonna's "Like a Virgin" hit No. 1, launching the Material Girl's phenomenal career. And, in the technology world, Cisco Systems was born, kicking off one of the most unprecedented eras of growth that the business world has ever seen.Back in 1984, very few people had actually heard of the internet. Personally, I had just started my undergrad program at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. As a computer science student, we were all given internet accounts on a Unix mainframe. IBM climbs on the Docker bandwagon

Docker fever continues to spread across the enterprise IT landscape. Following similar moves by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Google, IBM is equipping its enterprise cloud services to run the Docker virtualization containers.Delivered as part of its Bluemix platform services, the IBM Containers service is currently in beta and will allow users to launch and run Docker containers on the IBM Cloud.The service will support all of Docker's native features as well as Docker's new orchestration services, which administrators could use to stage and manage complex Docker-based workloads.MORE ON NETWORK WORLD: 12 Free Cloud Storage options IBM also has forged a partnership with Docker, the company managing the open source virtualization software, to further develop Docker Hub Enterprise. Cisco seen building momentum in Nexus 9K, ACI

Cisco is getting a lift from apparent momentum behind its Nexus 9000 switches and Application Centric Infrastructure fabric. Investment firm UBS boosted its Cisco stock price targets after discussions with EMEA chief Chris Dedicoat yielded numbers UBS found encouraging.Cisco has 900 – 1,000 Nexus 9000 customers and 120 customers for ACI and its Application Policy Infrastructure Controller as of fiscal Q1, according to UBS analyst Amitabh Passi, based on his talks with Dedicoat chronicled here in Barron's. Google meshes multiple enterprise partner programs into one

Google will try to boost the enthusiasm, commitment and sales of its enterprise partners with a revamped, consolidated program that offers more incentives and rewards.Google's seven enterprise partner programs, organized around products and geographies, will be fused into one designed to simplify and intensify the company's relationship with resellers, system integrators and developers.The new Google for Work and Education Partner Program, announced Thursday, will encompass the Apps suite, Chrome browser and OS, Android, the Cloud Platform's IaaS and PaaS products, enterprise Maps technology and Search Appliance.The program will have three tracks: the Sales track for resellers; the Services track for integrators and consultants; and the Technology track for developers. Oh, sure, he's not in the news quite as often as when he was running Microsoft day to day, but Bill Gates – richest man in the world – remains one of the most famous people on the planet.Yet nearly 1 in 5 adult Internet users were unable to identify Gates as the man pictured above, despite the multiple-choice format, according to a "Web IQ" quiz of 1,006 people conducted by PewResearch.I would have thought the question not worth asking. 'Very paranoid' Apple deleted rivals' music from iPods for 'security' reasons

Apple admitted to deleting music from some iPods, music purchased from competing music markets that is, but claimed the deletion of music was a security measure. Users were not told because it might "confuse" them."You guys decided to give them the worst possible experience and blow up" users' music libraries, said plaintiff attorney Patrick Coughlin during a class-action antitrust suit against Apple. He is one attorney representing an estimated eight million consumers and iPod resellers who bought the iPod classic, iPod shuffle, iPod touch or iPod nano models between Sept. 2006 and March 2009.
