Ernst & Young accused by Canadian used computer dealer of data breach
A used computer dealer in Canada claims he discovered a trove of Ernst & Young customer business data on Dell servers bought back in 2006 -- and he wants the global consultancy to pay him to return the data. But is the breach for real or just a hoax?Mark Morris, who describes himself as the owner of a small used computer dealership in Calgary that doesn't have a website, claims that in March of this year he discovered a huge amount of business data associated with Ernst & Young clients that had been left mainly on one of two servers he bought for $300 after Synergy Partners, the firm he had been working for as an independent contractor, was bought by Ernst & Young in 2003. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is reexamining how it treats wireless net neutrality, in response to public comments on the agency's proposed Open Internet rules.Under the net neutrality rules the FCC set in 2010, wireless was set apart from wired access and mobile operators were given more leeway to treat some streams of traffic differently from others. But that distinction is a major concern for "tens of thousands" of people who have commented on the agency's new proposal, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said Tuesday.An open Internet encourages innovation, which in turn drives network use and infrastructure buildout, Wheeler said. Encryption failures fixed in popular PGP email security tool Enigmail
Developers of the popular Enigmail email security extension for Thunderbird have fixed several issues that could have exposed messages users believed to be encrypted.Enigmail provides a graphical user interface in the Mozilla Thunderbird and SeaMonkey programs that allows users to digitally sign and encrypt email messages using the OpenPGP standard.The Enigmail Project released version 1.7.2 of the extension on Aug. 29 and briefly noted that the release fixes "several important bugs."
