Broadcom unveils 25G Ethernet, SDN optimized chip

Broadcom this week announced availability of new Ethernet switch silicon optimized for cloud-scale data centers.Broadcom's StrataXGS Tomahawk chipset is built on the company's widely deployed StrataXGS Trident and StrataDNX products. Tomahawk delivers 3.2Tbps switching capacity – 32 100G ports -- and SDN-optimized engines in a single chip, Broadcom says, and features all-25Gbps per-lane interconnect, enabling transformation to 25G and 50G Ethernet networks.Broadcom was one of the founders of the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium, a group of vendors and users looking to promote standardization of the 25/50G Ethernet speeds and product development. Journalist Clive Thompson has published an enlightening piece at Medium.com that shows us how we can tell the difference between a snail-mail letter that has been written by a robot and one that has been written by an actual human being.Here's an example of a robot scribbling away: Like Thompson, I believe that I can easily spot most of these fakes when sifting through my mail. Internet Crime Complaint Center warns scam uses IC3 e-mail as way to con victims

Not that it needed the reminder that scams suck, but the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) warned today that a new e-mail scam is making the rounds that uses the IC3 as the fraud contrivance. According to the IC3: "Victims report that the unsolicited e-mail sender is a representative of the IC3. The e-mails state that a criminal report was filed on the victim's name and Social Security number and legal papers are pending. Scammers impersonate an IC3 employee to increase credibility and use threats of legal action to create a sense of urgency. Victims are informed they have one to two days from the date of the complaint to contact the scammers. Failure to respond to the e-mail will result in an arrest warrant issued to the victim. Verizon Rolls Out VoLTE with Advanced Calling 1.0

Verizon Wireless recently announced that it has enabled VoLTE (Voice over LTE) for its wireless subscribers with the introduction Advanced Calling 1.0. The VoLTE service is available across its nationwide network on select smartphones.Advanced Calling 1.0 supports both HD Voice and Video Calling, and the two options are integrated with 4G LTE-compatible smartphones. For example, the contact list on the phone also shows a video camera icon next to the name, displaying who can receive a video call, and a tap or two on the phone starts the call so users can speak to friends and family face-to-face. Microsoft adds bug bounty program for its online services

Microsoft launched a new bug bounty program, this time for finding vulnerabilities in its online services. Microsoft said it will pay a minimum of $500 for qualified bug bounty submissions.Microsoft Online Services Bug Bounty covers the following domains: portal.office.com *.outlook.com (Office 365 for business email services applications, excluding any consumer "outlook.com" services) outlook.office365.com login.microsoftonline.com *.sharepoint.com *.lync.com *.officeapps.live.com www.yammer.com api.yammer.com adminwebservice.microsoftonline.com provisioningapi.microsoftonline.com graph.windows.net Before testing, however, Microsoft said to check "WHOIS" records for all resolved IPs to insure the domain is owned by Microsoft. Third parties that host for Microsoft, under subdomains owned by Microsoft, are not part of the online bug bounty program.
