A YouTube compilation of a 20-year-old AT&T ad campaign dubbed "You Will" is getting pass-along traffic today (and not for the first time). It's a fun look at the company's predictions for a range of technologies that would become the likes of GPS, online books and electronic toll collection.Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that anyone could have seen these things coming back in 1994. It's remarkable that these innovations would become not only real but commonplace so soon after this ad campaign aired. That they would become a reality at all? Verizon settles FCC consumer privacy investigation

Verizon Communications will pay US$7.4 million to settle U.S. Federal Communications Commission allegations that the company failed to notify millions of customers that they could opt out of having their personal information used in internal marketing campaigns, the FCC has announced.The settlement is the largest in FCC history related to telephone customers' privacy, the agency said in a news release.An investigation by the FCC's Enforcement Bureau found that Verizon failed to notify approximately 2 million new customers, on their first invoices or welcome letters of their privacy rights, about how to opt out of having their personal information used in marketing campaigns, the FCC said. Samsung banks on super-resolution screens for Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge

Samsung Electronics is hoping that super high-resolution screens on the Galaxy Note 4 and the Note Edge will help bring back some of its mojo.The Edge's screen, which wraps around the side of the device, sparked an explosion of comments by tech reviewers on Twitter the moment it was unveiled Wednesday at the IFA show in Berlin. Simultaneous Samsung events were also held in New York and Beijing.Samsung is once again updating its Galaxy Note smartphone-and-stylus line-up. Since its inception three years ago, the Galaxy Notes have become as important for Samsung as its Galaxy S range of smartphones.On Wednesday, Samsung expanded the range with two new models. Insurers will now be able to track driver behavior via smartphones

A new usage-based insurance (UBI) software platform will allow companies to track drivers' behavior through smartphone sensors and geolocation services.Agero, one of the nation's largest suppliers of roadside safety software and services to automakers and insurance companies, said its new UBI telematics suite will transmit to insurers the information needed to offer discounts to good drivers, penalize others, and send alerts to emergency assistance service providers.The UBI suite consists of the PolicyPal app, which tracks driving habits in real time, and Auto Crash Notification (ACN), which automatically notifies emergency services within moments of an accident.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE
