Dell expands stable of ARM server prototypes, but is not shipping products yet
Dell, not typically an early adopter of server technology, is still experimenting with systems based on ARM architecture while rival Hewlett-Packard has jumped ahead.Dell showed a new proof-of-concept, ARM-based storage server at the TechCon conference in Santa Clara, California, last week. It is the latest experimental 64-bit ARM server being offered by Dell for customers to develop and test applications.There has been a lot of hype surrounding servers that offer power-efficient ARM processors, best known for powering smartphones and tablets. iPhone 6 Plus accounts for about 20% of new iPhones
Although Apple's iPhone 6 Plus remains in short supply, its portion of total iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales has increased over the last two weeks, according to analysis of usage-tracking data.Mobile metrics firms Mixpanel and Fiksu, which monitor the activity of iPhone owners via the analytics embedded in clients' apps, have both noted an improvement in the ratio of the iPhone 6 Plus to iPhone 6 smartphones.MORE ON NETWORK WORLD: iPhoneys: Apple iPhone 6 concepts As of Sunday, for example, Mixpanel pegged the iPhone 6 at 6.02% of all iPhones, with the iPhone 6 Plus representing 1.34%. Facebook's purchase of WhatsApp a done deal at $22 billion
Facebook said Monday it had closed its acquisition of messaging app WhatsApp, giving the social network a massively popular service for mobile messaging.The deal, when first announced earlier this year, was to cost Facebook $16 billion plus up to $3 billion in additional Facebook stock options to WhatsApp's founders.
