ChromeOS team listens to Linux community, brings back ext2/3/4

A few days ago I wrote an article about how the ChromeOS developers decided to remove support for the ext file systems (ext2, ext3 and ext4) from the ChromeOS file browsers. I made it pretty clear in that article that I felt this was a colossal mistake that could potentially alienate huge groups of Google and ChromeOS's most vocal supporters – Linux users.Obviously, I wasn't the only person who felt that way. The issue on code.google.com itself (315401) contained nearly a hundred declarations against that decision. How Aruba Networks is tackling the SME market

Aruba Networks has arguably been the most successful enterprise-focused wireless network company over the past five years. Cisco may have more share, but much of that is due to Cisco's massive wired base. At one time, Motorola was on par with Aruba, albeit in different verticals, but that business is but a shell of what it once was and Aruba has continued to steal its share. As successful as Aruba has been in the enterprise segment, the company has had less success with the SME market, i.e. businesses where the employee count ranged from about 25 to 250. Why, you ask? Well, two big problems: a lack of product built for this segment and no channel to sell the product. In this case, the double negative doesn't create a positive, just a bigger negative. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE

Drupal releases patch for severe SQL injection flaw

Drupal has released a patch for a highly critical flaw in its content management system, which could allow rogue code to run.Drupal, which is a volunteer open-source project whose software is used by websites such as The White House and the Economist, said all of 7.x releases prior to 7.32 are affected, according to an advisory.Administrators should update to version 7.32. If that is not possible, a patch is available for the "database.inc" file that fixes the problem.Drupal uses a database abstraction API (application programming interface) that filters harmful SQL (structure query language) queries, but the vulnerability (CVE-2014-3704) can allow an attacker to send malicious queries that could be executed. These so-called SQL injection attacks are among the most common type of attacks against a website. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE

Chipmaker AMD will cut staff by 7 percent

AMD's new chief is making her mark quickly: By the end of 2014, the chipmaker will cut worldwide headcount by about 7 percent in a restructuring plan it hopes will put it on the path to improved profits. The layoffs will start immediately, and come just a week after AMD appointed former chief operating officer Lisa Su as the company's CEO. She replaced Rory Read, who held the post since August 2011.The company did not share specific plans about the restructuring or which parts of its business will be impacted by layoffs. AMD employed 10,149 people at end of its third fiscal quarter on Sept. 27.AMD has struggled over the last couple of years, reporting just a few quarters of profit. As a result of the layoffs and slashing costs such as real estate expenses, the company expects to save US$9 million in the fourth quarter and around $85 million in fiscal 2015.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE

Hadoop Platform, Apps Represent $1 Trillion Opportunity

NEW YORK CITY – Over the past few years, Hadoop and big data have exploded onto the tech landscape, garnering attention on par with cloud and mobile.
