"However, as products age and are removed from Oracle standard support maintenance, the technology becomes less relevant, devaluing the associated credential(s)."While that may seem like a reasonable enough conclusion, one question in a FAQ page on the site notes that "Oracle has stated that certification is permanent" and the policy change "seems to go against that."To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE | To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Netscape Navigator's release this week, let's take a look back at the rise and demise of the browser that introduced many to the World Wide Web. This weekend, I finally upgraded my home network with a Linksys WRT1900AC. And I didn't really upgrade to get more speed. I switched so I could put the router on top of the new WRT SE4008 8-port Gigabit Switch Linksys announced today."A switch?" you say. "This guy is geeking out over a new Ethernet switch?" Hey, I get it. For many, installing a Wi-Fi router all but eliminates the need for hardwired Ethernet connections. And since every consumer Wi-Fi router has at least a built-in 4-port switch for those situations you do need a few hardwired connections, many people will never need to buy an additional switch. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE | Salesforce.com's development platform is known for its ability to create new apps quickly and easily, but with the launch of Lightning, both business users and programmers can get in on the fun.Lightning is the next generation of Salesforce1, the successor to Salesforce's original Force.com platform, and was unveiled Tuesday during the company's Dreamforce conference in San Francisco."Apps equal innovation," said Mike Rosenbaum, executive vice president of platform, before the conference. A report from the vendors - which include a collocation provider, a cloud management vendor and a network operator - attempts to address a question many organizations may be considering: When is it better to use a public cloud versus a managed hosting or collocation environment? The case study finds that if an organization is spending more than $7,644 in Amazon's cloud each month, then it can be cheaper to operate a private cloud. But analysts say it's difficult to put an exact dollar figure on when a private cloud will be more cost effective than a public cloud; there are just too many factors to consider, says IDC analyst Melanie Posey. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE | WHITE PAPER: Curvature By refocusing their strategy to maintenance contracts that are independent of OEM policies, companies can maximize their IT budget while managing their infrastructure more efficiently.
