With two-factor authentication, malicious hackers need to be in control of two pieces of information in order to break into a system, such as a password and a code sent to a user's device like a smartphone.Overall, Windows 10 will offer businesses enhanced security in areas like identity protection and access control, information protection and threat resistance, since security "has been central to many of the customer conversations I've had since we announced the availability of the [Windows 10] Technical Preview," wrote Jim Alkove in the blog post, referring to the pre-release version of Windows 10 that is publicly available for testing. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE | This morning before its earnings call, EMC issued a press release stating it had acquired controlling interesting in the joint venture (JV) known as VCE. The JV was created by Cisco and EMC with minority investments from VMware and Intel to create the converged infrastructure market. Following the acquisition, EMC will own 90% of the JV, with Cisco maintaining about a 10% stake in the company. The companies formed VCE to develop an integrated, validated, pre-tested converged solution that customers could use to stand up a private cloud in just a few days. There are literally tens of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, of configuration parameters required to stitch V, C and E together. The JV took much of the mystery out of that, at least 80% to 90%, with the remaining 10% to 20% being used to customize the solution for specific environments. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE | Apple on Tuesday told browser users to pay attention to warnings of insecure digital certificates after reports of a "man-in-the-middle" attack against iCloud.com in China was revealed earlier in the week. But Apple's support document, which illustrated the alerts that Chrome, Firefox and Safari post when they have encountered a self-signed certificate, omitted the most popular browser used in the People's Republic of China (PRC): Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE).MORE ON NETWORK WORLD: 10 (FREE!)
